This past Sunday, October’s Very Own and Live Nation produced yet another successful OVO Festival at the Molson Amphitheatre. The first one took place last year, with announced performers such as Drake himself and Francis & The Lights. Special un-announced guests also attended, making the festival one of the most exciting concerts of the year. With artists such as Jay Z, Eminem, Young Jeezy, Fabolous, Rick Ross and several more gracing the stage, OVO quickly became the most awaited event for the 2011 Caribana weekend.
R&B newcomer The Weeknd kicked off the 2011 OVO Festival with his highly anticipated, second ever live performance. The week before Abel Tesfaye left 500 + something fans and industry connoisseurs in awe with an intimate show at The Mod Club. He had the chance to do it all over again, just as remarkably, for a much larger crowd…something above 16,000 people.
Rick Ross was also very well received by fans who sang along to songs like MC Hammer and Aston Martin Music among others. During his set, Drake introduced guest performers, driving the crowd wild. J Cole came out for In the Morning and hip-hop legend Nas performed Made You Look and If I Ruled The World.
However, Drake took it to a whole other level when Stevie Wonder sat on the piano for a short set performing songs like Superstition and My Cherie Amour. And as if that wasn’t enough to drive the fans in a frenzy, Young Money head honcho Lil Wayne lashed on stage for a surprise performance joining Drake on Miss Me. Both The Weeknd and Rick Ross also re-joined Drake during his set, with Lil Wayne, Drake and Rick Ross closing the show with I’m on One.
