Drake prepares his hometown for the 4th annual OVO Fest by revealing the event’s official lineup yesterday. This year Odd Future artist Frank Ocean and singer-songerwriter James Blake will perform on August 4th, while traditionally headliner Drake will perform the following day with special guests.

The event will take place in Toronto on August 4th and 5th at Molson Canadian Amphitheatre.

Tickets go on sale May 24th at 10am.

Words By Amanda Polla

Meet JMSN (otherwise known as Christian Berishaj) a 26 year old singer/songwriter/ producer who burst out into the music scene in 2012 with Priscilla, a self-produced and written ‘Hippie R&B record’, captivating both dark emotion and experiences pulled from both past and present life. His name (JMSN) stems from Jameson Whiskey and is spelt in the particular way to differ itself from the popular brand in order not to anger the company.

When talking to JMSN about how he started pursuing writing and producing, he goes on to explain how he discovered Protools at 12 years old and started experimenting with other types of instruments such as the guitar at a young age.

“Learning instruments is more like a need to use them. I learned guitar because I wanted to use it in songs. I don’t really know how to play the violin at all, but I would pick it up and play it in songs that I needed it. Piano is the same thing. It’s kind of like when I’m directing all my videos; I’m doing it not because it’s my passion or anything. It’s more of, I need to do it because it needs to get done, and no one’s going to do it for me.” (complex)

This eventually led him to grow into making his own music and beats. Between the two crafts, JMSN states that although both writing and producing hold so many good aspects his first love stems from writing, due to the fact that he feels it captivates his artistic expression the most. JMSN has also worked on projects for a handful of artists, some being the likes of Kendrick Lamar on his latest album good kid m.A.A.d city (complex) He states that with his personal music he’d like to remain self produced, this is because both the written and production aspects of JMSN music all done by himself is what continues to keep his sound authentic and pure.

JMSN holds many musical influences such as Prince, R.Kelly, Whitney Houston, Phil Collins, Fiona Apple, Portishead, and Radiohead. Artists past and present from all different genres that have helped shape his artistic outlook.

He also holds the credibility for man of his musical visual interpretations. JMSN directed and co-directed four of the music videos off of Priscilla, stating that with the creation of the song the music is always first, followed by a treatment and an idea of how the music should be interpreted. Moving forward in his career he is allowing other directors to wear the cap in creating the picture behind his music. This is a process that at first JMSN had mixed reviews about, but views it as positive in order for him to be able to really focus on the artistic side of his music.

The fan response to Priscilla has been amazing. He is currently on his North American spring tour, which kicked off April 24th in Phoenix Az. For tour dates/ information on upcoming shows visit JMSN’s official Website , aswell as his official Twitter page.

Yeezy attempted to hide his face from the flashing cameras, but in the process ended up hitting his head on a sign.
